Complete Streets: The New Mobility Landscape

Many transportation alternatives have recently grown in popularity, built on how simple it is for people to request a ride, rent a bike, scooter, or car through a mobile application. These shared mobility services could provide substantial benefits to society by reducing motor vehicle trips and their associated contributions to congestion and vehicle emissions. They could also be employed to enhance the mobility of people with disabilities, senior citizens, and low-income households lacking personal vehicles. Through this course, engineers, planners, architects, contractors and practitioners within the A/E/C industry will learn how the new mobility landscape impacts the design of our future roadways and public spaces, through a variety of contexts and specific community needs.

• Identify at least one positive impact to social equity from the use of safe, new mobility modes, such as rideshare programs or scooter rentals
• Describe the two elements required to develop a multi-modal program to serve as a Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platform that will enhance road traffic safety
• Enumerate at least two components of a Mobility Management Framework that promote the health, safety and well-being of the public
• Identify at least two of the six techniques that can be used by local agencies to encourage livability and environmental sustainability by using multi-modal options for their communities
