This course introduces the foundational principles of laboratory safety and the systems that support safe, compliant, and reliable laboratory operations. Learners will explore OSHA’s Laboratory Standard, Hazard Communication and GHS labeling, Chemical Hygiene Plans, Safety Data Sheets, hazard identification, the hierarchy of controls, ventilation and containment systems, personal protective equipment, chemical handling and storage, emergency response, hazardous waste basics, and incident reporting. Designed for laboratory personnel, this course establishes the core safety knowledge needed before advancing into more specialized laboratory safety topics.

• Explain the purpose of a laboratory safety program and the role of safety culture in daily laboratory operations
• Describe the basic roles and responsibilities of employers, supervisors, and employees under OSHA's Laboratory Standard
• Recognize the purpose of Hazard Communication, GHS labeling, and Safety Data Sheets in laboratory work
• Explain the function of the Chemical Hygiene Plan and how it supports safe handling of hazardous chemicals
