The practice of engineering is defined and regulated by a number of different agencies. Individual states create and enforce licensing laws, as well as adopt construction codes that define an engineer’s scope of responsibility. Non-governmental agencies and societies publish standards of practice based on the work of highly qualified committees, subject to public review and approval, in an effort to clarify an engineer’s responsibilities. Expectations of ethical conduct are also published and promoted by licensing agencies and public societies, but there can be some misunderstanding as to how ethical standards can truly be enforced in any given situation. This webinar will seek to clarify ethical codes of conduct with relation to legally enforceable expectations of licensed professional engineers.
