This course provides essential knowledge about wood chip storage and management practices at pulp and paper mills, with emphasis on maintaining chip quality and preventing fiber degradation and losses. Students will learn about different chip storage and reclamation methods, including automated stacker-reclaimer systems and dozer-managed piles, as well as the advantages of First-In/First-Out (FIFO) storage strategies. The course covers critical safety concerns, including dust control and fire prevention, while also addressing how different pile management techniques can impact pulping yields and product quality.
